Clean catch, Foley Cath, Straight Cath, Suprapubic Bladder Aspiration, U-bag for infants/toddlers
Specimen Required
Container/Tube:
Preferred: 3 Pour off tubes.
- Yellow Top UA No Additve tube or Yellow/Red UA Additive tube - 8 mL
- White Top No Additve tube - 2-6 mL
- Gray Top Boric Acid tube - 4 mL
- Additve/Preservative tubes must be filled to minimum fill line on tube.
Acceptable: Clean, leak proof container (No preservative). REFRIGERATE AFTER COLLECTION.
Note: "Gray top" vacutainer tubes used for urine cultures are unacceptable for urinalysis
Specimen Volume: 25.0 mL

A freshly voided urine sample without preservatives collected by the "clean catch" method is the specimen of choice. First morning urine yields the most meaningful results. Catheterized, Foley and random urine specimens are also acceptable.
