Glass slide with clear, scotch tape covering the material

Specimen Required

Note: Optimum time for collection is between 11 p.m. and midnight. 

Specimen should be collected in morning, immediately upon rising, and before bathing or bowel movement.

Collection of specimen using a Pinworm Prep Tube Collection Device:

1. Hold paddle by cap, and remove it from tube.

2. Separate buttocks, and press sticky side to perianal region.

3. Return paddle to transport tube.  Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.

For collection using glass and scotch tape:

1.  Separate buttocks and press the sticky side of the tape to the perianal region.

2.  Place the tape, sticky side down, on top of the slide and wrap around the edges, securing the tape to the slide.  Place slide into a hard-sided container for transport.

3.  Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water

-Label specimen with patient name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of collection, collector initials, and test(s) being ordered.

-Forward promptly to the laboratory
