Specimen Required

**Must collect two red capped Copan swabs or BD Liquid Stuart swabs for submission**

1.  Wipe away excessive amounts of secretions or discharge.

2.  Remove both swabs from one container and insert both swabs into the vagina.  Sample secretions from the lower 1/3 part of the vagina, rotating the swabs three times to ensure sample on both swabs.

3.  Then, using the same swabs, insert both swabs approximately 2.5 cm beyond the anal sphincter and gently rotate to sample anal crypts.

4.  Place swabs into the transport container 

5.  Repeat with second swab container

 

-Label each swab with patient name (first and last) or other unique identifier, patient hospital
identification number,  date and time of collection, collector initials, and test(s) being
ordered.
-Promptly forward specimen to laboratory at ambient temperature.
