Specimen Type

Hair, Skin, and/or Nail clippings

Specimen Required

HAIR:  Hairs clipped or plucked from infected areas.  Submit in a sterile container

SKIN or NAILS:  Wash affected area with 70% isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry.  Scrap the diseased area with a sterile scalpel and collect scrapings into a sterile container

Specimen Minimum Volume

Hair:  6-8 strands

Skin or Nails:  Several scrapings
