Collection Instructions:
Pap Thin Prep -
1. Collect endocervix or vaginal specimens using a Endocervicalbrush/spatula.
2. Rinse the Endocervical brush/spatula into ThinPrep PreservCyt Solution by swirling the brush/spatula vigorously in the vial 10 times.
3. Discard brush/spatula.
Note:
A. Specimen source is required for processing.
B. Label container with patient name (first and last), D.O.B., or other unique identifier, date and time of collection, collector initials, and type of specimen.
Pap Smear -
Collect vaginal or cervical specimen as follows:
1. Using a lead pencil, label frosted end of glass slide with patient name (first and last).
2. Do not use lubricant on speculum.
3. Gently brush or scrape area to be tested. (Cotton swab is not acceptable.) Note: Bleeding or douching within 24 hours of specimen collection may yield an unsatisfactory specimen.
4. Smear slide and immediately drop or spray 95% ethyl alcohol fixative. (Any other fixative is not acceptable.)
