Preferred: Sterile Container

Specimen Volume: 1.0 mL
 

Collection Instructions:

Obtain specimen during a lumbar puncture or other tap using 2 tubes:
1. Place a small amount of fluid in first tube (to clear blood).
2. Collect 1 mL of spinal fluid in second tube.
3. Send specimen in a screw-capped, sterile container.
4. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature.

5. Laboratory, add equal volume of CytoLyt  fixative immediately after collection.
