TEST ID BONEMARROW BONE MARROW BIOPSY for Pathology

Important Note

A recent CBC, including slides, is required.  If patient does not have a recent CBC, a CBC order and collection is needed.

Collection Instructions:

 

1. Call Vascular Access to schedule biopsy.  Vascular Access will notify the lab to schedule a lab tech to be present during procedure.
2. Bone marrow specimens are collected by the physician and assisted by lab tech.
3. The labeled specimen and slides are brought to Histology unfixed and in a syringe (if during open hours) accompanied by a completed tissue slip.
4. If after hours, the specimen is placed in 10% neutral buffered formalin.(after 30 mins and before 3 hours of collection)
Note: A pathology/diagnostic report and a brief history are required for processing.
